Bereavement Support Group

Free of Charge drop in Group - 1 hour (arrive between 10.15-10.25am for a 10.30am - 11.30am meeting)

Second Tuesday of the month.

Bereavement is something that all humans go through in life. It’s part of loving and losing a person or pet that you cared very deeply about. Though it’s common to all humans, our journey through bereavement is as personal to us as the relationship we had with the person/pet we have lost. So the saying “different boat, same storm” fits well as a metaphor for bereavement. Some of the more common things that bereaved people struggle with include: health anxiety, fear, anger, depression, numbness, unhealthy coping strategies, low mood, loneliness and feeling lost.

Not everybody who is grieving needs, wants or can access one to one therapy. However, many people will benefit from sharing a space with others who are going through their own bereavement. A space that aims to offer support, listen without giving an opinion or ‘trying to fix’ and share healthy coping strategies. This is why I decided to set up this free drop in monthly support group.

There is no pressure to share or comment unless you would like to, you can choose to reflect and observe. We will explore objective stories, poems, quotes and insights about grief. So you won’t necessarily have to talk about your personal experience and feelings - unless you choose to.

As a qualified and experienced counsellor, who has worked with grieving clients for many years, and as a person who has experienced loss of close loved ones myself. I will hold a safe and empathic space for those who would like to come along.

The group will be held at the ‘Living Room’, 191 Leigh Road, Leigh on Sea SS9 1JE. Next door is the Phabulous cafe, where you will be able to purchase drinks for the meeting if you would like. After the meeting there will be 30 minutes available in the room, to stay and talk to others or to myself or the other volunteer counsellor.

You will be asked to complete a short contact form when you attend. Just asking for your name, address, email or telephone number and emergency contact details.

Thoughts Workshop

Investment: £45 - 2 hour workshop

A workshop based on the CBT principle that thoughts affect the way that we feel and subsequently, the way we behave. We will cover thinking errors and distortions, mindfulness, gratitude practice, thought experiments and journalling. You will be gifted a gratitude journal and hand-out pack to continue your own thought practise should you wish.

This is an experiential group workshop, where learning will take place through sharing ideas and taking part in activities (there is never any pressure to share). Workshop will last two hours.

Register your interest in attending workshop, once waiting list has enough people to go ahead, dates will be agreed.

Previous participant feedback: “This course is so well put together. I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about exploring CBT and wanting to change and adapt their way of thinking. You will go on to help so many people.”

Worry Workshop

Investment: £20 - 1 hour workshop

Do you feel stuck in a rut of worrying about worst case scenarios? Then this one hour workshop could be for you. Worrying thoughts are often linked to the unknown and involve predicting the future, usually imaging the worst will happen. This type of thinking can cause anxiety, which impacts us physically and emotionally. Anxiety then feeds into more worry and so the cycle continues. Sound familiar?

During this experiential workshop, we will explore activities on control; your personal worries and reframing them; and coping strategies to distract from worry.
